About Us

City Utilities is a municipally owned and operated electric, water, & wastewater utility, serving more than 4,000 customers in Richland Center, Wisconsin. We strive to provide low-cost, reliable service with a community-focused, personal touch. We are your friends and neighbors who share your values and understand your needs.

City Utilities of Richland Center was founded in 1904. While a lot has changed over the past century, the focus of the utility has not. Today, we still offer our customers some of the lowest electric rates in the area – rates significantly lower than those in territories that are served by most investor-owned utilities. And, since we live and work in the community, we provide reliable energy with superior customer service.

City Utilities of Richland Center also provides our customers with clean, high-quality water that meets or exceeds all state and federal standards. Our water quality and capacity are monitored every day by well-trained system operators.

City Utilities of Richland Center provides wastewater services also. Construction of our wastewater treatment facility began in 2014 and was substantially completed in the winter of 2015. It’s been designed and constructed to produce a high-quality effluent for discharge to the Pine River, and to maximize operational flexibility and energy conservation. The new facility is located off of County Highway TB straddling the townships of Buena Vista and Orion.

Value of Public Power

The City Utilities of Richland Center owns and operates its own local utility and has long been committed to helping make our community a great place to live and work. As a public power community, we are in the business of meeting customers’ needs and providing a higher level of service.

Local Ownership

City Utilities is dedicated to meeting our customers’ needs while helping to make the community a better place to live and work. We are one of the country’s 2,200 public power systems — a utility owned by the community it serves.

As a non-profit public power utility, we have one main purpose — to provide customers with the best services at the lowest possible cost.

Economic Development

We know that electric costs can be a significant part of your business’s operating budget. Community-owned utilities like us tend to have lower electric rates than nearby investor-owned utilities. Simply put, doing business here – in a public power community – just makes sense.
